How this shop works
There is no basket and no checkout here: the site does not sell. Each product goes to its listing on Amazon Spain, where you buy under Amazon’s terms, with its delivery and its right of withdrawal. We publish no prices, because the affiliate programme only allows the ones that come from its API, and because they change daily: the button shows the real price at that moment.
The criterion is the same as in the guides: we choose by what the listing states and can be checked, and when a listing does not give the figure that decides, that product stays out. The rejected ones, with the reason, are in the guide for each tool.
Chawan, the bowl
Diameter is the figure that decides: between 11 and 13 cm the chasen moves without hitting the walls. It is exactly the one most listings leave out, so we only link bowls that state it. Chawan guide →
Asayu Japan ceramic chawan made in Gifu
The only one among those that give dimensions that is made in Japan: 12.1 cm across by 7.7 tall, Gifu ceramic, lead free glaze. Right in the comfortable range for whisking.
GOMETY 560 ml ceramic chawan with stand
Cheaper, and with dimensions on the listing: 12.5 cm across, 560 ml. It comes with the chasen drying stand you would otherwise buy separately.
Chasen, the whisk
The listing has to say how many prongs it has (80 to 120 for usucha), that it is bamboo and not plastic, and should not say it is dishwasher safe. Very few meet all three. Chasen guide →
VMUTGA 100 prong bamboo chasen
The listing states the 100 prongs and the hand carving from a single piece of bamboo, and warns that it is not dishwasher safe. That is what to check in a chasen, and few listings say it.
NaturaleBio 100 prong bamboo chasen
Also 100 prongs and natural bamboo, with the care instructions printed on the box, and they are the right ones: water only, no soap, air dried.
Chashaku, the scoop
Real bamboo, and a listing that says how much it holds. A chashaku varies by 20 to 30% from one scoop to the next: if you want the exact dose every time, the scale further down settles it. Chashaku guide →
18 cm bamboo chashaku, in a pack of two
100% natural bamboo, the traditional 18 cm, and the listing says how much it holds: 1 to 2 grams. Sold as a pack of two.
Kusenaoshi, the chasen stand
It is not a luxury: it is what decides whether the chasen lasts three months or six, because it dries the prongs in their curve. It has to give its dimensions and which whisks it fits. Caring for the chasen →
Goodwei Chasentate ceramic stand
The only one we found that gives its dimensions (6.3 cm across by 7 tall) and which whisks it fits: 80 to 120 prongs. Without that figure you cannot tell whether the chasen will sit loose or forced.
Sieve
A 0.15 mm mesh to break up the lumps before whisking. Kitchen strainers are sold as fine mesh without saying how fine; the ones that do say are nearly three times as coarse. Brewing step by step →
PATIKIL 100 mesh (0.15 mm) sieve in 304 steel
The only one that states its mesh, 0.15 mm, in 304 stainless steel. Kitchen strainers say fine mesh and leave it there; the ones that give a figure stop at 0.42 mm. Its 10 cm sit exactly on the rim of a chawan.
Complete sets
A set is worth it if it says how many prongs its chasen has and comes without matcha: generic set matcha states neither region nor harvest. Building it piece by piece usually works out better, but these two pass the test. Complete set guide →
JOOVEY 8 piece set with an 80 prong chasen
It says how many prongs the chasen has, 80, and includes a 304 stainless steel sieve, a 510 ml ceramic bowl with a semi-matte interior, a stand, a chashaku and a chakin. No matcha inside, which is exactly what we want.
NIRAIZEN 8 piece set with a 120 prong chasen
It also states the prongs, 120, with a ceramic bowl, sieve and chakin. The tin it comes with is empty: no matcha.
Scale
For 2 g per cup you need to read to the hundredth of a gram: at that scale a 5 kg kitchen scale is working in the last thousandth of its range. The first is the right tool; the second, the compromise. Dose calculator →
Brencco 500 g scale reading to 0.01 g
Reads 0.01 g, ten times finer than the 0.1 g this guide asks for, with 500 g capacity and a tare to subtract the bowl. For weighing 2 g it is the right tool.
Vitafit 5 kg kitchen scale reading to 0.1 g
If you want one scale for everything: 0.1 g reading up to 5 kg, 304 stainless steel, LFGB approved, with tare. For 2 g it works at the edge of its range; for the kitchen it is more than enough.
Thermometer
Water at 75 °C can be judged by eye with practice, and first time with a probe thermometer. The only thing that matters is that it reads fast: one that takes fifteen seconds is already measuring different water. Water temperature →
DOQAUS instant read probe thermometer
A 3 second reading and a 304 stainless steel probe, which is all that matters here: the ones that take fifteen seconds are no longer measuring the water you are about to use. It reaches 300 °C, far beyond anything you need.
Frother, for latte without a chasen
On a frother only two figures are any use: the revolutions per minute and what the whisk head is made of. Almost no listing gives the first; these two do. Making matcha without a chasen →
Maestri House LunaFro Mini electric frother
It states 10,000 rpm, a detachable stainless steel head that washes separately, and a USB-C rechargeable battery instead of cells. Almost no listing gives the rpm.
Fackelmann 13,500 rpm electric frother
Cheaper: 13,500 rpm stated and a steel head, on two AA cells. It spins faster and costs less than half; the trade off is the batteries and a head that does not come off.
Frequently asked questions
Does this shop sell anything?
No. Every button goes to the product listing on Amazon, and the purchase, delivery and returns happen there, under Amazon’s terms. We hold no stock and play no part in the order.
Why are there no prices?
Because the Amazon affiliate programme only allows prices that come from its API, and we do not use it. They also change daily. The button takes you to the real price at that moment.
How is each product chosen?
By what the listing states: number of prongs, dimensions, material, mesh size or precision. Never by the photos or the number of reviews. If the listing does not give the figure that decides, the product is not linked, and the ones we rejected, with the reason, are in the guide for each tool.
Do you earn anything if I buy?
Yes. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. It costs you nothing extra. It is explained on the transparency page.
Why is there no matcha powder in the shop?
Only tools here. To choose a matcha there is the ranking and the reviews, scored with the published formula, which link to each brand’s own shop.
What do I need to start?
Three things: a chawan, a chasen and a chashaku, or a 0.01 g scale instead of the chashaku if you prefer the exact dose. The rest is optional and is bought once you know what you are missing.
