The real cost per cup

The price on the pack tells you nothing. What matters is the cost per cup and the cost per kilo. A 30 g matcha at €9 on Amazon looks very cheap, until you work out that it comes to €300/kg, against €209.90/kg for Matcha Zen. And the Amazon one is not ceremonial.

Price per kilo, the number that changes everything:
Matcha Zen: €209.90/kg · Cosmic Matcha: €816.67/kg · Matcha & Co: €966.67/kg · Tesuko: €1,033.33/kg · Japanese Tea Hub: €1,400.00/kg
The only matchas with a lower price per kilo than Matcha Zen are culinary grades sold as ceremonial, or overstock being cleared.

Matcha Zen Ceremonial
€0.42 a cup · 85/100 · the lowest cost per cup in the ranking · China (Jingshan) · €20.99/100 g
For context: A vending-machine coffee costs between €1 and €1.50 in Spain, where we bought these samples. Matcha Zen at €0.42 a cup comes in under a decent instant coffee. The Japanese Tea Hub at €2.80 sits at the level of a speciality espresso. Neither is expensive for first-harvest tea with organic certification.
