Sensory analysis

Colour (8/10)

Deep, even green. Slightly less bright than a pure Uji, but within the ceremonial range.

Aroma (8/10)

Clean aroma, pea and fresh grass. No perceptible faults.

Foam (8/10)

Good, persistent foam. A few more large bubbles than Matcha Zen, which can point to slightly coarser particles.

Umami (7/10)

Umami present but moderate. Consistent with a blend that includes Kagoshima, where the profile tends to be fresher and less deep than pure Uji.

Body (6/10)

This is where the gap shows most. Matcha & Co Premium has a lighter body than others at its price. In the mouth the tea is less dense. For usucha that is acceptable; for koicha, the concentration you end up with lacks the depth you would expect.

Astringency (8/10)

Low astringency. Approachable for beginners.

Verdict

Matcha & Co Premium is a decent entry-level matcha carried by a brand with a strong presence in Spain. Its weak point is body: at €29 for 30 g, the lack of texture and depth in the mouth is noticeable in a side-by-side tasting. For everyday lattes it does the job perfectly well. For anyone after depth in a straight usucha, there are more satisfying options.
